经济学 provides a primary basis for decisions at the national, 行业, individual 业务 and consumer levels. 经济学家s analyze how 企业 and households make decisions, 自由市场如何运作, and how a national economy functions and prospers. Based on theory and empirical evidence, economics prescribes solutions to societal problems such as unemployment, 通货膨胀, 污染与犯罪. 经济学 students learn to think analytically and develop models to understand the consequences of decision making. Analytical and problem-solving skills learned in the economic context could be applied to other areas.
The flexibility of an 经济学 degree allows you to apply economic analysis to a variety of problems facing individuals, 企业, 国家或整个世界. It also serves as an excellent foundation for graduate education in law, 业务 administration or 公共管理. 银行, 金融机构 and government organizations are leading employers of economics graduates.
Besides preparing students for careers in 业务, an education in economics is excellent preparation for graduate studies in law, 业务, 公共管理, 环境研究, 在经济学上也是如此. 经济学 is a flexible choice for students seeking a rigorous, well-respected and relevant major without specializing in a narrowly defined area.
There are three distinct degrees in 经济学 available to students:
- 商业经济学学士.S. (主要)
A 业务 degree where students will be exposed to multiple 业务 areas. This allows a student to major in an 经济学 major but still have a strong 业务 background. The BS in 业务 经济学 is excellent for students who are strong in quantitative courses and are considering an MBA program after graduation.

Not a pure 业务 degree, but does offer students some 业务 courses. It also offers a good deal of flexibility, as it does not have a set 业务 core to take. It provides excellent preparation for law school.
- 经济学、B.A. (主要)
Offered jointly with the College of 艺术与科学. The BA offers flexibility and is the least quantitative of the three 经济学 degree options. This is a liberal arts degree and students will be expected to complete the College of 艺术与科学 exploratory requirements.

Providing valuable understanding of the concepts and applications of economics, a minor in this field provides students with a flexible and marketable minor. Combined with a 业务 major – or major in another field – an economics minor gives the graduate an additional advantage in the marketplace. A minor in economics can also provide recognition to the student who does not want a major in economics but who has taken several courses in the area.
